'Sleepy Hollow' season 4, episode 3 spoilers: Crane faces off again with one of his toughest adversaries

Ichabod (Mison) and Diana (Gavankar) in \"Sleepy Hollow\" season 4 promo still | Fox

If Diana (Janina Gavankar) did not have enough motivation to help Crane (Tom Mison) in his future endeavors, maybe having her 11-year-old kid, Molly (Oona Yaffe), being the next witness would be enough reason for her to willingly tag along. "Sleepy Hollow" continues its rebooted storyline with an interesting reveal that opens up a slew of possibilities for its future plots.

The arc was something unexpected and Mison himself admitted that there is a slew of other possibilities that the show can tackle in this narrative. But in retrospect, something fresh is what "Sleepy Hollow" needs if it is still trying to recover from Abbie's (Nicole) death last season.

"There were lots of different avenues that the new Witness could've gone down. An 11-year-old girl certainly wasn't one that I saw coming," the actor spilled to TVLine when he sat down with the media outlet for an episodic post-mortem session. "For Ichabod, to see that it's an 11-year-old girl, knowing the sort of battle that she's entering, how could anyone be enthused? How could he be excited that he's found the next Witness, when it's a child?" he continued.

While the plot twist is commendable some fans point out that "Sleepy Hollow" has previously established that the Witness should be from Abbie's lineage; therefore, Molly should be related to her in some way. But given that the Crane's former partner comes from African-American heritage and Molly does not appear to be, this poses a possible plot hole.

Meanwhile, moving forward to tonight's episode titled "Heads of State," Crane may have already moved to Washington D.C., took on another job and partner but he cannot escape his past. Spoilers for the episode reveal that "one of his greatest foes has booked a ticket to town to fulfill his mission of targeting high-ranking officials. This, in turn, has everyone working double time to ensure the safety of everyone including Jake (Jerry MacKinnon), whose knowledge of the secret tunnels help their cause immensely.

"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 airs every Thursday, 9 p.m. ET on FOX.
