'Skate 4' release date news update: Online petition urges EA to develop game

It has been six years since the release of "Skate 3." Without any signs of development for "Skate 4," fans resorted to starting an online petition for Electronic Arts (EA) to develop a new version of the game.
Although EA has not confirmed if it is developing a sequel for the "Skate" franchise, the video game is among the most anticipated games for 2016, according to GamenGuide.
In this time of desperation, EA gamers even asked help from White House officials to urge EA to develop the game. On Aug. 12, gamers filed a petition to request support from the government to intervene.
Gamers need to collate 100,000 signatures for the petition to be successful. As of writing time, the petition has only 2,669 signatures. Since the goal is to collect a total of 100,000 signatures, gamers need to attain 97,331 signatures by Sunday, Sept. 11, to be heard by the White House.
If the gamers succeed, the game still might not be developed anytime soon. Sources say that EA has its hands full with other titles.
To note, EA responded to a loyal fan of the franchise on Twitter last May. The video game developer tweeted, "@BoWCNM We love the passion our players feel for the Skate franchise. A new game is not in development, but we appreciate your feedback."
Skateboarding games are not as popular today as they used to be in the early 2000s. GamenGuide believes that Activision only aggravated the situation when it released "Tony Hawk's Pro Skate 5." The source also suggests that this decrease in popularity may be why the company is focusing on other more marketable genres.
While waiting for further development of the petition, gamers can enjoy other EA titles such as "Titanfall 2," "NHL 17," "Madden NFL 17," "Battlefield," and "Star Wars."
