'Sherlock' Season 4 release date update: Martin Freeman hints 2016 premiere, Benedict Cumberbatch spotted filming in Cardiff
Fans of BBC's "Sherlock" have been wanting to see season 4 since the show last aired in January 2014, and it looks like they won't be waiting any much longer.

Freeman recently sat down in an interview for "The Graham Norton Show," where he discussed the show which is currently in production. "We are back filming now and the three shows will, I imagine, be out around Christmas," the actor said last April 28. Additionally, he mentioned about fans flocking to see them film, which becomes distracting at times. "There is always a heightened state of excitement and we sometimes have to respectfully remind them that we have to be focused and it's not a live gig!" he added.
As noted by BBC, the famous detective returns to the small screen featuring episodes full of "laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases." In the official synopsis released by the network, season 4 follows Sherlock as he returns to British soil to investigate on new strange cases. Meanwhile, Doctor John Watson and his wife prepare for the biggest challenge they will face, as they finally become parents.
Benedict Cumberbatch admitted in the same report that he was "genuinely thrilled" to resume filming the series with the cast and crew members. "I can't wait for everyone to see season four. But you will have to wait... though not for long... And it will be worth it," the 39-year old actor shared.
Earlier in April, executive producers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss released a press statement as the series started production, which reads: "Sherlock series four - here we go again! Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street - and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake. This is the story we've been telling from the beginning. A story about to reach its climax..."
On another note, Cumberbatch was spotted filming in Cardiff, Wales, wearing what appears to be a curly brunette wig. The report states that they were filming in the Cyncoed area of the capital for "Sherlock."
