'Shameless' season 7 release date, spoilers news: Premiere scheduled for Oct. 2, 'Quantico' alum Tate Ellington lands multi-episode role

After wrapping up back in April, Showtime's hit comedy-drama, "Shameless" will soon return to TV screens for its seventh season, and a new character recently joined the cast.
After going through a rough patch, Fiona Gallagher will have to face the reality of life in the next season. Along with the other complications she usually gets herself into, being left in the altar will surely change her perspective and find a new job elsewhere. Even if her ex-fiancee is also her boss, the show's newest cast member will help clear her mind and make her realize that quitting her job should not be an option.
"Quantico" alum Tate Ellington is the show's latest addition and he portrays the role of Chad, and employer of the company that owns Patsy's Pies. He will be introduced as someone who will convince Fiona to stay as the diner's manager. In an Instagram post last Wednesday, Ellington shared that he started shooting his scenes for the series.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Nancy Pimental hinted that Sean and Fiona's split will greatly affect the Gallagher daughter, putting her in complicated crossroads. "We're talking about a future where Fiona will have more responsibility but gets her wages garnished because she hasn't paid taxes, the EP explained. "She's worked hard to be on the up and up and it becomes a question of: Is it worth it? How do they get out of their circumstances?"
As Fiona and Lip yet again hit rock bottom in their lives and Frank dealing with his drinking problem, fans should look forward to how the Gallaghers will stand up again. "As we're diving into season seven and, perhaps season eight, which one of the Gallaghers has the tools and the potential to get out of their circumstances and what would that look like?" said Pimental. "Do they end up falling back? It's something we're constantly exploring. It's a huge theme for us and it's a big statement in society — that you can be offered so much and have so much potential but your familial relationships influence you more than anything."
Tune in to the season 7 premiere of "Shameless" on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
