The fractured Gallagher family is ready for new beginnings when "Shameless" returns for its seventh season next month.

In a recent trailer from Showtime, viewers are given a glimpse of the cast behind the scenes as they shared details on the upcoming season. "The theme of the season is new beginnings, but of course, this is 'Shameless,' so we'll see how far that actually goes," Cameron Monaghan teased. The Gallaghers may be off to a new start but as hinted in the clip, they will return to their "old ways" and face more trouble as the story moves forward.

Season 6 left off with Fiona (Emmy Rossum) set to marry Sean (Dermot Mulroney), but her father Frank (William H. Macy) made a scene at the wedding and told everyone that Sean was using drugs again. The finale featured the Gallagher kids banding together and throwing their father into the freezing Chicago river. It was also revealed that Ian (Monaghan) is doubting his sexuality, Debbie (Emma Kenney) is a kleptomaniac and Lip (Jeremy Allen White) finally gets out of rehab to start anew.

The series films its exteriors in Chicago, but the rest of the scenes are done in a soundstage located in Los Angeles. Speaking with Chicago Tribune, Rossum said jumping back and forth sets in between episodes was "tricky in the beginning" but she has gotten used to it. The actress will be making her directorial debut this season, and she admitted that her co-stars were a bit nervous and hesitant with it at first.

"...I tend to be pretty Type A and a perfectionist," she stated. "I think they thought I would be really hard on them. But I am so in love with their talent and only want to create an environment where I can give suggestions that they can take or leave." Rossum further added that she is always straightforward and decisive when it comes to directing.

For fans who want to watch previous episodes, seasons 5 and 6 are currently available for streaming via Netflix.

Tune in to the premiere of "Shameless" season 7 on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
