'Shadowhunters' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Kat McNamara speaks on Clary's journey to save Jace, Harry Shum Jr. hints possibility of 'Malec' fighting together

Fans will have to wait a long while before the second season of "Shadowhunters" premieres on Freeform, but the fantasy series will surely bring more exciting episodes following its successful debut in January.

The show's first season wrapped up with a major cliffhanger involving Jace's fate. The next chapter will see Clary go out on a mission to rescue Jace, with the story taking a dark turn as Valentine comes to terms with his true identity. Aside from saving Jace, Clary must also prevent Valentine from becoming evil. In an interview with Movie Maniacs, Clary's portrayer, Kat McNamara shared some details on her character's goals for this season. "Clary, on the other hand, has been sort of faltering and trying to find herself this whole season and now has a sure of herself mission to get Jace back and help him find his way," she said.

Viewers will also see Clary's growth as a character, particularly now that she knows more about her origin. "Clary is now the one who's come to terms with the fact that she's Valentine's daughter. It'll be interesting to see her take charge and help Jace figure out all of his issues," the actress explained during a Q & A session for season 2.

In an interview with Out, Magnus' portrayer Harry Shum Jr. gave some insights on what he personally wants to see in the show's sophomore season. According to him, a huge fight involving Magnus and Alec would be an interesting idea. "I would love to see Alec and Magnus fight together," said the actor. "That would be so cool to see. Fighting together would be hilarious dialogue, some great effects, and action. And of course, magic! You can never have too much magic."

The network has not yet announced a definitive premiere date for "Shadowhunters" season 2, but the fantasy series has been confirmed to return next year.
