'Shadowhunters' season 2 premiere spoilers, air date, news: All hell breaks loose after Jace's departure with Valentine; New teaser shows Victor Aldertree's arrival

The hunt is on for Jace (Dominic Sherwood) in the upcoming season 2 premiere of Freeform's hit original drama "Shadowhunters" season 2.

Titled "This Guilty Blood," the show's second season premiere will explore an upheaval in the Institute after Jace's departure with Valentine (Alan Van Sprang). According to the official synopsis, all hell breaks loose following Jace's decision to leave the Institute with Valentine. Alec (Matthew Daddario), Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) and Clary (Katherine McNamara) are determined to find him, but their rescue mission is cut short when Victor Aldertree (Nick Sagar) enters the picture. Victor means business and he will stop at nothing to get the Institute back on track.

However, Victor's plan to get the New York Shadowhunters to work hand in hand with The Clave may be counterintuitive to Alec, Isabelle and Clary's plan to save Jace. Elsewhere, Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) realizes that she has a lot to catch up on after finally waking up.

In the latest teaser for season 2, the biggest story arcs are revealed: the search for Jace and how the complication will personally affect Clary. The clip shows Maryse Lightwood (Nicola Correia-Damude) telling the shadowhunters that Valentine actually has the Mortal Cup and is now gearing up to build his own army. Lightwood also informs everyone in the room that Valentine is accompanied by a shadowhunter.

The new head of the New York Institute, Victor Aldertree, makes his first appearance in the video as he talks about his plans for the organization. Victor announces that their first priority is tracking down Jace. To keep everyone safe, the Institute is put on lockdown. Clary worries about Jace after hearing Victor's speech, but Isabelle assures her that their friend is strong and Valentine cannot get through him. At some point in the teaser, Valentine's men can be seen punching Jace in the face multiple times.

"Shadowhunters" season 2 premieres on Monday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
