If one thing is for sure, Harlee's love life will definitely get busier as actor Gino Anthony Pesi has been recently promoted as series regular. Pesi portrays the role of Harlee's romantic interest ADA James Nava, and he appeared in eight episodes of the previous season.

Season 1 left off with Wozniak (Ray Liotta) finding out that Harlee lied to him, and though he has already forgiven her, the female detective remains remorseful for what she did. Aside from being the series' main character, Lopez is also one of the executive producers. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, she mentioned her goal of reaching more viewers through her work. "Our whole goal was to bring a cable-like show to network," Lopez explained. "Network has the audience, it has more reach, and at the end of the day if I was gonna do a show I wanted it to reach a lot of people."

Now on her 30th year in show business, the youthful 46-year-old performer takes pride in being able to take on different careers in the entertainment industry. "People like to kind of think of you as one thing or else you're not credible in that field, and I just don't believe that," she stated. "I knew that authentically I was a musical performer as much as I was an actress, and I took both very seriously. I didn't want to deny one for the other just to have people go, 'Oh, she's a great actress!' or 'Oh, she's a great musical artist.' It's not about seeking that validation for me. It's about expressing myself and being able to do the things that I love to do."

Production begins later this month and "Shades of Blue" season 2 will premiere sometime in midseason. However, the network has yet to announce a definitive release date for the series.
