Comedian Seth Rogen has spoken out regarding his "American Sniper" criticism after receiving backlash from fellow celebrities on social media.

Rogen tweeted earlier this week that the movie, starring Bradley Cooper, reminded him of a Nazi propaganda film. The movie follows the real-life story of accomplished American Navy SEALS sniper Chris Kyle.

On Friday, Rogen issued an apology for his Twitter comments that had sparked backlash from country music stars Blake Shelton, Kid Rock and Craig Morgan, as well as actor Dean Cain.

The comedian shared a photo of a statement he provided to the Associated Press with the caption: "I truly hopes this clears things up."

Rogen wrote in the statement that the movie only reminded him of the Nazi propaganda film featured in "Inglorious Basterds" because "they both involved plots about the most lethal of snipers."

"My grandfather was a veteran," Rogen continued.

"My comment about the movie was not meant to have any political implications," he said. "Any political meaning was ascribed to my comment by news commentary."

While some have criticized Rogen for his comments, other actors, including Alec Baldwin, have sought to defend the star of the recent Hollywood flop "The Interview."

"Did @RealDeanCain threaten Seth Rogen? And isn't that the same kind of troubled thinking that got Chris Kyle killed?" Baldwin questioned.

Controversial documentarist Michael Moore has also received criticism for a recent tweet he posted in reference to "American Sniper," calling snipers for the U.S. military "cowards" because they reportedly shoot you in the back.
