The second victim of a Washington state high school shooting died of her injuries Sunday evening, her family said in a statement.

14-year-old Gia Soriano was one of five students at Marysville-Pilchuck High School near Seattle who were shot by gunman Jaylen Fryberg on Friday. Soriano passed away at around 9 p.m. on Sunday night at Providence Regional Medical Center.

Another student, Zoe Galasso, was shot and killed by Fryberg on Friday before the gunman turned the handgun on himself. He also shot and severely injured 15-year old Andrew and 14-year old Nate Hatch, both cousins of the gunman.

Students who witnessed the incident said Fryberg reportedly walked into the school cafeteria on Friday and opened fire at a group of students eating lunch. Those close to the situation have suggested that Galasso, Fryberg and one of the cousins were involved in a feud with each other.

The Soriano family released a statement following their daughter's death that read, in part that they are "devastated by this senseless tragedy."

Although the high school where the shooting took place is closed this week, local media reports that several students from the school are attending neighboring high schools. District Superintendent Becky Berg said in a statement that "We heard loud and clear from our students that they wanted to get back to school, be with their friends, grieve together and move forward."

"That said, each family will make a personal judgment about what their student needs to transition to our new normal."
