Seahawks QB Russell Wilson Criticized for Calling '50 Shades of Grey' A 'Great' Movie
Despite receiving backlash for calling "50 Shades of Grey" a "great movie," Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has defended his decision to watch the movie.
Wilson received criticism on Twitter for tweeting that he saw the movie, which follows the sadomasochistic relationship between two characters. The film is based on the erotic novel by the same name.
"Thanks for the early showing of #50ShadesOfGrey late last night.. #EmeraldCity Great movie," the NFL star wrote on Twitter.
Wilson, a pronounced evangelical Christian, later defended his choice to see the movie despite receiving backlash on the social media platform.
"Saw a movie filmed in the town I call home," Wilson tweeted. "Provocative/disturbing no doubt but that does not make me less Faithful. Have a blessed day!"
The former Super Bowl champ has previously expressed his Christian faith both on and off the field. Following the Seahawks' win against the Greenbay Packers in the 2014 season, Wilson gave all glory to God.
"I just believe that God prepared me for these situations. God's prepared our team too as well. Like I said, I'm honored to be on this team," Wilson said after beating out the Packers for a spot in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
"All my hope is in You Jesus! You are my anchor that is never shaken!" Wilson tweeted ahead of the Packers game. After winning the game against the Packers, Wilson added: "Headed back to the Super Bowl!!!! QBs in the House! Glory to God!One Mission."
