'Scream' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Kieran's fate still uncertain, special Halloween episode set for October

Following an intense sophomore season filled with murders and chaos, "Scream" recently wrapped up revealing Kieran Wilcox (Amadeus Serafini) as Piper's (Amelia Rose Blaire) killer accomplice. MTV has yet to renew the thriller drama but the showrunners recently teased their plans for a possible season 3.
Speaking with TV Line, co-showrunner Michael Gans hints the future for Kieran is still uncertain. Without giving too much away, he stressed that the killer being alive and in prison is a good thing since it rarely happens at the end of slasher stories. "Most of the time, the killer gets killed. And I think Emma is the right character to choose not to take the kill. ... Kieran's alive, which means anything can happen," he teased.
The huge mystery about Lakewood's notorious murderer may have been resolved, but the series still ended in a cliffhanger when Kieran received a mysterious phone call. There are speculations that the person at the other end of the line could be Brandon James (unknown actor) and according to Serafini, it could be "really creepy" if it was indeed him. Since viewers have yet to see Brandon in his adult form, the actor thinks it could be someone pretending to be him. Serafini admits that he still has no idea on the caller's identity, saying: "It could go either way."
Fortunately for fans who were left hanging, a special Halloween episode of "Scream" will be aired on October to tie all the loose ends in the season 2 plot. "See that, #ScreamTeam? Stay tuned for October when answers to our Season 2 questions are put to rest. #MTVScream," a post from the show's official Twitter profile dated Aug. 17 reads.
The two-hour special Halloween episode for "Scream" airs on October, but MTV has yet to decide if the slasher series will return for a third season.
