'Scream' season 3 cancellation rumors: Will "Scream" be renewed for another season?
Cancellation rumors of MTV's adaptation of the hit horror film franchise "Scream" have been making rounds on various social media platforms. Although MTV has yet to confirm the show's fate, the network has turned to Twitter to announce that "Scream" will have a two-hour Halloween special in October.
The upcoming special will tie the loose ends in season 2. MTV tweeted, "See that, #ScreamTeam? Stay tuned for October when answers to our Season 2 questions are put to rest. #MTVScream."
Consequently, the announcement bolstered the cancellation rumors. Many find it odd that the network decided to answer the remaining questions about season 2 with a special episode instead of ending the queries in the forthcoming season. Hence, many are convinced that season 3 is all but a dream and that season 2 is indeed the series' last.
Sources say that the special could be a continuation of Brandon James' story, revealing how he survived when Maggie Duval (Tracy Middendorf) left him in a cabin to die. To note, James is a murderer who preyed on multiple students from George Washington High School.
In another tweet, MTV teased, "Well, #MTVScream Season 2 finally came to an end last night... or did it?"
The tweet could have been referring to the forthcoming two-hour special but fans choose to be optimistic, believing that the tweet is teasing that season 2 is not the end.
On the other hand, there have been recent rumors suggesting that "Scream" could have been picked up by Netflix. Netflix recently announced that "Scream" will be available on the online viewing platform starting Oct. 18.
Furthermore, Netflix reportedly has a history of saving shows that have been dumped by other networks. Hence, "Scream" could be renewed for another season but will be produced by a different network. Since MTV and Netflix have remained mum with the details, the renewal of "Scream" for season 3 remains unsettled.
