'Scream' season 2 spoilers news: Series bosses tease new killer, went 'much more insane' for new season

Piper (Amelia Rose Blaire), who was revealed to be the killer in the freshman season of MTV's slasher horror series "Scream," may be dead, but that doesn't mean that the Lakewood Six can finally rest easy.
According to the producers of "Scream," which is based on the slasher film franchise of the same name, the new season will feature a new killer that is just as dangerous as the first.
While the "Scream" bosses couldn't reveal much about the real identity of the season 2 killer, they did drop a few hints in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.
When asked about whether or not the new killer was somehow involved in the events in season 1, "Scream" executive producer Michael Gans answered, "We can't say anything about that, but we can say that this killer is motivated by season 1."
"It's about the sins of the past, it's a punishment and it is a large scale performance, it's for the world to see," he explained.
Another major clue about the killer's identity is that viewers have reportedly already seen his/her face.
"They're someone in our world, but it's so hard to talk about," Gans teased.
According to the "Scream" boss, the new season will be "entirely psychological." In addition, executive producer Richard Register said that how the killer's identity is revealed at the end of the season will be "slightly different" than how the season 1 killer was unmasked.
Meanwhile, Gans spoke to The Wrap about how the "Scream" team came up with the story for season 2. According to him, it wasn't easy topping the kills from the first season and avoiding just rehashing previous events.
As Gans told the outlet, the key to coming up with a satisfactory second season was to just "allow yourself to go that much more insane." According to the "Scream" EP, he and Register took the first season and "put it on a roller coaster and douse[d] it in blood."
"We took everything that already existed and kept twisting it and twisting it, and pushing it to scarier places," he said.
"Scream" airs Mondays at 11 p.m. ET on MTV.
