'Scream Queens' season 2 updates and spoilers: The Chanels continue their life in a mental asylum, Jamie Lee Curtis hints 'very dark' storyline

Fox's popular thriller comedy series "Scream Queens" ended its freshman run last year, and viewers will see their favorite sorority group return to TV screens for a second season.
Season 1 left off with Hester (Lea Michele) after she survived from the stiletto stabbing she inflicted on herself. She managed to convince Denise (Niecy Nash) that the three Chanels are all murderers, resulting in their arrest. Chanel, Chanel #3, and Chanel #5 are found guilty of all charges and they were sentenced to life in a mental asylum.
During Fox's Upfront party in New York City, star Jamie Lee Curtis shared some teasers which fans could expect next season. "I think it'll be dark. I think it's going to be very dark," she told E! News. "It's in a hospital, [there's] a lot of darkness in hospitals—dark hallways, scary rooms, sharp objects, a lot of blood, disinfectants."
In terms of additional characters joining the cast, Emma Roberts confirmed that new faces will be on board next season. "We're adding some incredible new cast members that you'll find out about soon. It's going to be fun, it's going to be wild," the actress said in the same event. "We haven't even read a script yet though, so we actually don't know what's going to happen."
Creator Brad Falchuk previously confirmed that the upcoming season's hospital setting is inspired by "Halloween," a classic horror flick which was also set in a hospital. Curtis also became a part of the film in four installments. Dean Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) will cross paths with the Chanels once again as she will head the mental asylum.
As of this writing, the network has yet to announce an official release date for "Scream Queens" season 2.
