'Scandal' season 6 spoilers, plot news: Kerry Washington explains hiding baby bump while filming

It's still a long stretch before "Scandal" officially hits the small screen, and it seems that Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) will have a slight change in her fashion style this coming season 6.

Washington may be expecting her second child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha, but Olivia will certainly not be pregnant come season 6. In a recent interview for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Washington revealed that the production team is doing everything they can to hide the actress' pregnancy while filming.

"Big coats, big bags ... hiding behind different body parts of other actors," she explained to host Ellen Degeneres. "Like if I'm in the back of the room, it can be, like, somebody's leg, and I'm positioned behind it."

This is not the first time Washington had to hide her baby bump on set. Back in 2013, Washington was pregnant with her first child but instead of writing a pregnancy storyline for Olivia in season 3, the creators opted to get more creative and utilize camera angles and various props to hide her growing belly.

Meanwhile, ABC President Channing Dungey confirmed during the Television Critics Association event that "Scandal" season 6 will return with a script which opens with a scene featuring the Election Day. It might be the continuation of the cliffhanger last season, as viewers will finally see  Mellie (Bellamy Young) compete against Frankie (Ricardo Chavira) as they both try to win the U.S. presidency.

However, Mellie's dream to become the next POTUS may be thwarted by vice presidential nominee Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry). Known for his cheating and manipulative schemes, the former chief-of-staff of ex-U.S. President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) will do everything it takes to keep Mellie from taking the most powerful position in the country.

The sixth season of "Scandal" is expected to premiere early 2017 with the same Thursday-nights-at-9 timeslot on ABC.
