'Scandal' season 6 spoilers news: What happens after Cyrus chose to give his loyalty to Frankie? Scott Foley weighs in on what fans should anticipate for the upcoming season

Hit TV series "Scandal" ended its fifth season with a surprise-filled episode last Thursday as the political twists and turns left almost everyone speechless.
The show might have come to a close just recently, but it's never too early to talk about what comes next especially now that things are heating up in the election season.
To provide a short recap, the season 5 finale featured Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) ex-chief of staff Cyrus now on Frankie Vargas' (Ricardo Chavira) side as his vice presidential running mate. Meanwhile, Olivia (Kerry Washington) chose Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) to be Mellie's (Bellamy Young) running mate in her effort to save him from Command (Joe Morton). They have no idea how manipulating Olivia's father is, and he is seen watching the dramatic VP announcement on live TV while sipping wine, saying, "That's my girl."
In an interview with Variety, Scott Foley shared some teasers which fans should look forward to for season 6, especially now that the election began bringing in new drama. Is there any chance that Jake will back out as Mellie's running mate? "I think it's a twofold problem," Foley said. "He doesn't want to endanger himself in regards to Rowan, but also, Olivia has a hold on him and he wants to do what makes her happy and wants to do what she wants."
Cyrus being Frankie's running mate came as a surprise to everyone, and Foley weighed in on how this huge shift will affect alliances next season. "Cyrus is so good at getting people on his team and he knows exactly how to play his game," the actor stated. "I think the dynamic between him and Olivia, as he said in tonight's episode, it's the old guard vs. the new guard. But yeah, you've got Fitz on Mellie's side, you've got Abby and the Gladiators and Rowan pulling for Mellie. Cyrus is on an island by himself at this point. But I think that he really believes in this candidate — he really believes that Frankie Vargas is the best choice and the real deal. It's going to be interesting to see if what Cyrus did to get Frankie to this point [this shooting at the capital] comes out."
As of now, the network has yet to announce further details on "Scandal" season 6.
