'Scandal' Season 4 Spoilers, Recap News: Olivia Escapes But Finds Out Later Everything Was Fake

Returning after its midseason hiatus on Thursday at 9/8c on ABC, "Scandal" examined the aftermath of the kidnapping of Olivia (Kerry Washington). The episode picked up minutes after Olivia was kidnapped with Jake (Scott Foley) arriving to find her gone.
As soon as Jake arrived at Olivia's apartment he found it empty as the kidnapper had just spirited her away. He then thought that Olivia was being taken away in a car and chased it down the street, managing to note down its license plate number. Jake then checked her apartment for any signs of surveillance and found none. But unknown to him Olivia was being held in the apartment of her neighbor. Olivia then placed a ring which she was wearing under a rug in the apartment.
After Jake left, the kidnappers murdered the old lady who lived in the apartment. They then put Olivia inside a body bag and carried her out of the apartment. Subsequently Olivia was administered a drug and she passed out. She woke up to a muezzin's call to prayer, which made her think she was in a Muslim country.
Olivia later found out that her other cellmate was a kidnapped journalist called Ian McLeod (Jason Butler Harner). After bonding with him, she asked him to check her for tracking devices. She also revealed to Ian that the President would know that she was missing and would track her down.
Ian was then taken out from the cell. She heard him screaming in pain as his captors appeared to be torturing him to death.
Using the bathroom, Olivia tried to escape but was recaptured.
However in her next escape attempt, she succeeded in loosening a pipe and beat one guard on the head with it. Taking his gun, she shot another guard and opened the door to the house she was being held in to find Ian still alive.
Olivia learned that she was being held in a warehouse where projections and sounds had been used to fool her. Ian then said he had befriended her to get vital information. He then asked Olivia get back to her cell.
