'Scandal' Season 4 Spoilers: Maya Lewis Returns In Mid-season Finale

Maya Lewis (played by Khandi Alexander), a known terrorist and the mother of Olivia Pope, will re-enter the political thriller TV series "Scandal" in Nov. 20 episode titled "Where the Sun Don't Shine."
"Scandal" airs every Thursday at 9/8c on ABC. Recent episodes saw Olivia (played by Kerry Washington) trying to prove the innocence of Jake Ballard (Scott Foley).
The mid-season finale however will feature the reentrance of Maya, which could either be a good or a bad thing for Olivia and her team.
Maya was last seen escaping after killing several people. She was later framed for the murder of Jerry by Rowan Pope (Joe Morton). But since that time, Rowan, who is the real culprit, managed to turn suspicion onto Jake and put him behind bars. So with no suspicion on Maya at the moment her return could see her helping Olivia prove Jake's innocence.
With several episodes to go until the mid-season finale, no additional plot details have been released about Maya's return.
However, in the upcoming episode titled "Baby Made a Mess" Jake's fate is still a bone of contention between Fitz and Olivia. In the previous episode Jake was transferred to a super max prison facility instead of being handed over to B613 in spite of Pope's opposition. "Baby Made a Mess" will see Olivia struggling to come to terms with Jake's guilt and accepting that he killed Jerry Jr. (Dylan Minnette) and Harrison (Columbus Short).
In the episode she will eventually turn to Tom (Brian Letscher). However, it is not guaranteed that he will give her the answers she needs or if any of them will be truthful.
The synopsis further reveals that Leo Bergen (Paul Adelstein) will cause Olivia to have "a gut-wrenching reaction" which the International Business Times notes could deal with Jake.
