Samsung Gear VR specs news: Tech giant planning to rival HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, PS VR
The virtual reality headset has become the biggest gem in the gaming technology today, with the simultaneous unveiling of the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and the PlayStation VR within the past few months. However, the South Korean electronics company, Samsung, is planning to enhance its own version of the VR headset called the Samsung Gear VR. Since it was released last year, the tech giant has thought of ways for its products to beat its rival gadgets in the market. Recently, they announced that they are currently working on a wireless VR headset design.

Samsung made the big announcement during the Samsung Developers Conference on April 27, as covered by the Variety. The company's research and development head for software and services, Injong Rhee, has revealed that Samsung is now planning a wireless VR gear that will be designed to work even without the use of other Samsung phones or tablets.
"We are working on wireless and dedicated VR devices, not necessarily working with our mobile phone. VR is amazing, but the industry is still at its infancy," Rhee stated. He also revealed that the new VR headset is going to be packaged with hand and gesture tracking system, something that is already seen in Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. However, the said feature has more rooms for improvement which Samsung can take advantage of.
Samsung released its first ever virtual reality headset, the Samsung Gear VR in 2015, and it was made available in the markets worldwide in November. Online reports have noted the Samsung Gear VR had enjoyed huge income as it was the biggest product that can offer virtual reality experience to the players. The supply of Gear VR in Amazon and Best Buy was reported to be falling short due to very high demand. However, the arrival of HTC Vive and Oculus Rift has hit the brakes for Gear VR's starting momentum in the market.
