Samsung Gear S3 specs, features, release date: Samsung to launch smartwatches globally on Nov. 18

Last Friday, Samsung Electronics announced and unveiled the Gear S3 Frontier and Classic versions. The device was launched by the tech giant in their homeland, South Korean. The gear will be available in worldwide markets on Friday, Nov. 18.

Both versions of the Gear S3 will look like any regular watch, but the Frontier model will have a more modern design. Meanwhile, the Classic gear will feature a more traditional watch design.

"A significant addition to our smartwatch portfolio, we drew inspiration from classic watch manufacturers to offer consumers a premium timepiece," Younghee Lee of Samsung Electronics revealed.

Though both smartwatches will have distinct designs, both will be equipped with the same crucial features. But unlike the Gear S3 Classic, the Frontier version will come with Bluetooth LTE and 3G support.

Both watches will have a 1.3-inch circular AMOLED display, which will have a 360 x 350 p resolution. Both watches boast an Always On feature, which displays the traditional watch face on its screen.

The smartwatches are built using corning gorilla glass. It will have 4 GB internal memory as well as 768 MB RAM. Owners can utilize the watches' built-in GPS, S Health, barometer, and speedometer apps. This way, owners can track their daily activities as well as the weather from their watches.

The devices are the first wearable magnetic secure transmission (MST), allowing its owners to swipe debit or credit cards across the device to make digital payments.

Since the devices can connect to Wi-Fi, the smartwatches will be capable of receiving texts, emails and alerts. LTE support will be made available in several countries, including the U.S. and South Korea.

The Gear S3 smartwatch is expected to roll out worldwide in Australia, Dubai, France, Germany, Singapore, U.K. and in the U.S. this Nov. 18.
