Samsung Gear S vs Sony Smartwatch 3 Specs, Price Comparison: Features Review Shows No Clear Winner

It's hard to pick a winner when comparing the Gear S smartwatch from Samsung and the Sony Smartwatch 3 as both devices look very much alike.
Design
The Smartwatch 3 has a rectangular watch face. In this aspect it is pretty much like the Gear S. However, the Gear S has a bigger watch face which makes it appear like a mini smartphone. It is paired with variously colored rubber straps. As for the Smartwatch 3, it can be purchased with exchangeable straps made from a variety of materials including rubber and stainless steel.
Display
In terms of display, the 1.6-inch transflective screen on the Smartwatch 3 comes with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. The Gear S has huge 2.0-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 360 x 480 pixels and a density of 300 pixels per inch.
Platform
Powering the Smartwatch 3 is a Quad ARM A7 CPU clocked at 1.2 Ghz which is coupled with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. Compared to this, the Gear S has a Dual-core CPU clocked at 1 GHz along with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. Running the Smartwartch 3 is Android Wear while Tizen powers the Gear S. A major difference between the devices is that the Gear S has its own SIM card, data connection and phone number. Hence, it can be used to make calls even when it is not paired with a smartphone. The Smartwatch 3, just like other smartwatches, requires a Bluetooth connection with your phone, but the Gear S doesn't need this. But for other functions, both devices still have to be paired with compatible smartphones to get them to work.
Sensors
In terms of sensors, the Smartwatch 3 and the Gear S have sensors to check ambient light, an accelerometer, compass, gyro and GPS. In addition the Gear S also comes with a barometer and heart rate monitor which the Smartwatch 3 does not have.

As for their price, the Gear S is priced at $350 while the Sony Smartwatch 3 is priced at $249.99.
