Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Vs Microsoft Surface 3 Comparison: A Contest Too Close to Call

Samsung is undoubtedly one of the major players when it comes to smartphones. Aside from producing top-of-the-line smartphones, the Korean tech giant is also a maker of great tablets, including the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. Here is how it stacks up against the budget tablet/laptop hybrid from Microsoft, the Surface 3.
Design
The Galaxy Tab S10.5, like many other products from Samsung, is made from plastic. Its back panel has dimples, which allow the device to be easily held. As for the Surface 3, it is made from magnesium and comes with a kickstand, which can be adjusted in three positions, converting it into a laptop. However, the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is smaller and thinner compared to the Surface 3. When it comes to weight, the Samsung device is a great deal lighter. Both devices offer keyboards that can be bought separately. However, the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 does not have a trackpad. When it comes to digital pen, only the Surface 3 has one while a fingerprint sensor is exclusive to its rival.
Display
The super AMOLED display on the Galaxy Tab S 10.5, as its name suggests, measures 10.5 inches. It has a resolution of 2560 X 1660 pixels and a density of 288 pixels per inch. On the other hand, the Surface 3 as a screen measuring 10.8 inches with a resolution of 1920 X1280 pixels and a density of 214 pixels per inch.
Specs
The Surface 3 has a quad-core Intel Atom x7 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz while the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 has an Exynos 5 octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 1.9 GHz and four cores clocked at 1.3 GHz.
Memory
In terms of RAM, the 64GB Surface 3 has 2 GB while its 128 GB version has 4 GB. The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 has 16 GB and 32 GB versions and both have 3 GB RAM. When it comes to memory slots, both devices have them.
Software
The Surface 3 has a major advantage in that it runs the full version of Windows 8.1 while the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 runs Android KitKat 4.4.
Price
The starting version of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is priced at $500 without its keyboard while the 128 GB Surface 3 costs $630 with a Type Cover keyboard included.
