Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs News: New Leak Indicates Smaller Battery

SAMSUNG

With a few days to go before the launch of the Galaxy S6 on March 1 in Barcelona, all the details about the new flagship from Samsung seem to have been leaked. Whether or not the almost constant leaks will impact on the reception of the Galaxy S6 cannot be gauged.

The latest rumor is that the new Samsung flagship phone will have a smaller 2600 mAh battery than its predecessor.

While the downsizing of the battery may seem strange to some people, the metal unibody and slim design of the Galaxy S6 could have caused a shortage of space and forced Samsung to instal a smaller battery.

With Samsung reducing the size of the TouchWiz interface and possibly using the 14nm Exynos 7420 on the device, Forbes noted that there will be less strain on the battery and it could last as long as the bigger 2800 mAh version on the Galaxy S5.

After its launching just before the Mobile World Congress 2015 kicks off, the Galaxy S6 will be released for sale sometime in the fourth week of March. Later, a variant named the Galaxy S6 Edge will be released starting in April.

The price of the upcoming Samsung flagship device has also been leaked. The S6 version with 32 GB onboard storage will be priced at $853 while its 128 GB version will cost around $1,080. The Galaxy S6 Edge will be costlier with its 32 GB version retailing for $967.

Recent leaks have also indicated that the Galaxy S6 will have a much improved camera – a 20 megapixel version coupled with "intelligent software" that, according to Samsung, will do the "thinking" and users would just have to click the button to take the picture.

As for the chipset on the Galaxy S6, all indications are that the company will be using its own Exynos line after dumping the Snapdragon 810 due to overheating problems. Many think the chipset will be the Exynos 7420, but Motley Fool thinks it could also be an "Exynos 5433 with full 64-bit support and LPDDR4 memory support."
