Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy A7 Review: Comparison of Specs, Features - Galaxy A7 Outshines Samsung's Flagship

The Galaxy A7 and the Galaxy S5 are both from Samsung, but the newer A7 outshines its smaller flagship cousin in terms of specs and design.

Starting with design, the Galaxy S5 has a plastic body and it back panel has a matte finish with dimples. The newer A7 has a metal unibody which gives it a premium look, something which the Galaxy S5 lacks. Additionally the Galaxy A7 is very slim at 6.3mm compared to the 8.1mm of the Galaxy S5.

As for their displays, the Galaxy S5 has a smaller 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen, with a resolution of1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 432 pixels per inch. The Galaxy A7 has a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401 pixels per inch.

Comparing their platforms, the Galaxy A7 will be sold with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC or 32-bit Exynos 5430 SOC. The Snapdragon 615 dual SIM model will have an octa-core CPU with four 1.5GHz A53 cores plus four 1.0GHz A53 cores while the Exynos 5430 single SIM model will have a four 1.8GHz A15 cores plus four 1.3GHz A7 cores. Coming to the Galaxy S5 it has a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801chipset, a Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU.

Both devices have 2 GB of RAM, but the Galaxy S5 has a microSD slot which can be used to add external storage of up to 128 GB. The Galaxy A7's slot can be used to add storage of up to 64 GB.

In terms of their cameras, the Galaxy S5 has a 16 megapixel version at is rear while the Galaxy A7 has a 13 megapixel shooter.

Finally coming to price, the Galaxy S5 is priced at $649 without a contract while the A7 will probably be priced at $600 without a contract.
