Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs Galaxy S5 Comparison: Review of Specs, Features - Very Different Phones

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha and the Galaxy S5 are produced by the same manufacturer but they have a ton of specs and design elements that are quite different.

The differences are quite evident when comparing the design of these two phones, with the Galaxy Alpha featuring a visible metal frame that is slightly rounded at its corners with faux leather at its back. As for the Galaxy S5 it is primarily made from plastic but also has a slightly indented faux leather as part of its back panel.

Comparing the displays, the Galaxy S5 has the dimensions of a phablet – a screen measuring 5.1 inches and a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels with a density of 432 pixels per inch. The Galaxy Alpha has a smaller 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels with a density of 312 pixels per inch.

The chip on the Galaxy S5 is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5 Ghz and it is coupled with a Krait 400 CPU. On the other hand the Galaxy Alpha comes with the octa-core Exynos 5 chipset and has a CPU with four Cortex-A15 cores operating at 1.8GHz while the other four Cortex-A7 cores operate at 1.3GHz.

Comparing the cameras on both phones, the Galaxy S5 with its superior 16-megapixel rear camera emerges as the clear winner. The Galaxy Alpha only has a 12-megapixel camera. The front facing cameras on both devices are almost alike in terms of megapixels.

The Galaxy S5 with its 2800mAh battery can deliver up to 21 hours of power, while the Galaxy Alpha with its smaller 1860mAh can only last up to 11 hours with the standard amount of usage. In terms of onboard storage however, there is a major difference between both devices as the Galaxy S5 comes with 16GB and 32GB onboard storage and has a microSD slot which can be used to extend its memory up to 128GB. The Galaxy Alpha has a maximum of 32GB of onboard storage with no microSD support.

In terms of pricing, the16GB version of the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Alpha cost around $545 on Amazon.
