Robin Williams Cause of Death: Lewy Body Dementia Probable Cause
Robin Williams was suffering from a condition known as Lewy body dementia which would have caused hallucinations and depression moments before he took his own life last Aug. 11, autopsy results showed.
Following his death, speculations were aplenty that the actor had been suffering from clinical depression that led to his suicide.

E ! Online reports that after the William's family heard of the autopsy results, they were not surprised as they had witnessed the star suffering from its symptoms. However, Williams had apparently not been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia when he was alive.
The William's autopsy report also indicates that he might have been experiencing hallucinations before his death. Speaking to ABC news, Angela Taylor, a Director at the Lewy Body Dementia Association, said, "people with this type of dementia can appear confused, disoriented and exhibit unusual behavior."
This fact was further corroborated by the coroner's report which stated that Williams had no traces of drugs or alcohol in his system when he committed suicide by hanging himself with his belt.
However, days before he committed suicide, Williams had started acting strangely, and had been keeping his watches in a sock, apparently concerned about their safety. Taylor also stated that "Lewy Body Dementia can ultimately cause significant cognitive impairment and people have trouble eating and staying clean."
Williams also seemed to have been suffering from Parkinson's disease, although this could have just been an initial diagnosis which usually happens in the case of LBD.
However, the pathology report released by the coroner's office noted presence of Lewy Bodies in Williams's brain. The report also noted that were other changes in the brain which were consistent with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
In spite of Lewy Body dementia occurring frequently, diagnosing it correctly is a problem as some people might experience hallucinations in the early stage but still be able function normally in certain periods.
