'Riverdale' latest news: 'Stranger Things' actress Shannon Purser aka Barb, Robin Givens land recurring roles for upcoming live-action counterpart of 'Archie' comics

Two new cast members recently joined the cast for The CW's upcoming "Archie" reboot "Riverdale," and one of them is a fan-favorite actress from Netflix's phenomenal hit "Stranger Things."
Newcomer Shannon Purser made her mark in the industry with her first acting stint as Barb in The Duffer Brother's popular TV show. Despite being a well-loved character in the series, she was killed off just after appearing in two episodes. Purser will once again make her way to the small screen by playing a recurring role in "Riverdale" as Ethel Muggs. The comic books depict Ethel as a homely type of person who is attracted to Jughead, but their live-action counterpart might not be heading the same way.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Purser will appear in "at least" three episodes of season 1. Ethel will find herself falling in love with someone other than Jughead, but it remains to be seen who it is. Apart from her budding romance with a mystery character, Ethel will also become good friends with Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) as they plan their revenge on Reggie (Ross Butler), the school bully.
Meanwhile, Robin Givens also landed a recurring role in the much-hyped program as Mayor Sierra McCoy. Besides being the powerful mayor of Riverdale, she is also the mother of Josie - who will soon grow up as the famous lead of Josie & The Pussycats. Stylish and determined, Mayor McCoy will do everything she can to guide Riverdale after the mysterious death of Jason Blossom. She will make her debut in the second episode of season 1.
Set in the present day, The CW's upcoming series "Riverdale" features the iconic characters of "Archie" with a storyline exploring the surrealism and darker side of small town life.
"Riverdale" premieres on 2017 but the network has yet to announce an exact release date.
