Rio Olympics 2016 opening ceremony: Start time, how to watch on TV, online via live stream & more

The 2016 Olympics is set to open this coming Friday in Rio de Janeiro, and sports fans will be happy to know that there are multiple ways to view the event without having to book a trip to Rio.

Thanks to a report by Time, people now have access to a list of the possible options they can take to view the Rio Olympics.

People have the option to watch the event live stream, and the NBC Sports app can let audiences watch the event on their laptops, tablets, or smartphones. For cord-cutters, they can subscribe to Sling TV's Sling Blue, which lets them stream the channels that cover the Olympics on their TV or any other device. Sony also has the Playstation Vue streaming service which would let fans view the event.

For the more traditional types, they can stick to cable TV for the Olympics coverage. NBC Universal will be broadcasting most of the games live thanks to the one-hour time difference between Rio and the Eastern Time Zone. The events will be available in 11 channels including NBC, Bravo, NBC Sports Network, NBC Universo, and more.

A digital antenna is also an option for people who want to watch the event for free. It would enable viewers to watch live coverage through broadcast networks like NBC.

A third option is for people who have access to virtual reality (VR) technology. Last June, NBC Olympics announced that they will provide VR coverage of the event. A 360-degree view of the event will be available to authenticated users of compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones, all thanks to the NBC Sports App.

Watching the Olympics from the comfort of one's home may be the smart decision since numerous health concerns surfaced as pollution reports regarding the said place have been making their way online.

The Rio Olympics is set to open on Aug 5, 2016.
