Among the latest rumors about the storyline of the third season is that Rick may finally become more self-aware this time around. There is a growing speculation among the fans that the character may learn that he is on his own TV show. As reported by the Movie Pilot, Rick will be aware of his role in his own TV show. This may not be a surprise after all, as hints from the previous episodes with audience interaction and the so-called fourth wall breaking might finally lead to Rick's self-awareness in Season 3.

Also, Movie Pilot stated that this possible development in Rick's character might be related to the huge secret in the TV series. "Rick and Morty" co-creator Dan Harmon teased everyone with his statements regarding a shocking secret that only the creators in the show know at this point.

"We haven't talked about this in a while, but before we wrote the first episode of Rick and Morty, we had a conversation where, I think it was Mike McMahan who said, 'Should we decide that there is a secret we keep from the audience forever?" Harmon said. "But we always know it.' I won't say what. We said, 'Oh, what about this? And we went, 'Yeah, that's really cool.' I was kind of obsessed with it for a while."

Another thing to look forward to in Season 3 is the new villainous alien overlord to antagonize the protagonists. As reported by the Morning Ledger, the previous alien overlord in the previous seasons will not be voiced by the same actor. Instead of Justin Roiland who lent his voice to the antagonist in Season 2, a lucky fan will be filling in the role in the upcoming season. The fan is identified as Jonas B from Canada, and he will start working on the "Rick and Morty" recording studio until the alien overlord character eventually gets killed off towards the end of Season 3.
