Over a year had passed since Adult Swim aired the last episode of "Rick and Morty" season 2, but fans are already longing to see a new episode from season 3.

But series co-creator Dan Harmon admitted that the fresh new episodes for the next installment of "Rick and Morty" are still not ready for airing, and he took the blame for the delay.

Harmon told Indie Wire during Sunday night's Sundance Film Festival that there is still no air date yet for the third season of the fan-favorite animated series. "I don't have a release date for Season 3. It's not that I know it and I'm not allowed to say it; it's [Adult Swim's] domain. What I will tell you is it's late because of us, it's late because of me," the series co-creator stated.

He also mentioned that his co-creator Justin Roiland would also agree with him that the reason why it is taking them a longer time to release "Rick and Morty" season 3 lies on their prolonged writing process. But they could not exactly pinpoint the reason why.

However, Harmon also admitted that after the animated series became popular with the fans and critics, he and Roiland went through several creative clashes in the middle of the production process.

"We have fights all the time and then we have fights about why we're having fights," he also stated. "'Well, we didn't fight during Season 2, that's why it's taking longer! All this fighting! So OK, let's stop fighting!'"

Aside from the third season's possible release date, Harmon was also mum about what fans should look forward to in the return of "Rick and Morty" for its third season. But fans could expect to see Rick and his grandson Morty go through all sorts of adventures in the show's next installment.
