Adult Swim's hit sci-fi comedy "Rick and Morty" is already heading to its third season, and new details about its upcoming release have been revealed.

The series has already been confirmed to span 14 episodes for its third season, but details about its release date remain under wraps. "Rick and Morty" writer Erica Rosbe recently caught up with Cinema Blend, and she said the season is already written. However, the animation for the series has been a slow process. "We ended four weeks ago, I think. I think they're done soon, they're done really soon," she explained. "I think in a week or two they're going to have screenings in the production office."

Similar to Rosbe's statement, writer Mike McMahan tweeted last week about completing his work for the show's upcoming season. "And that's a wrap for me on Rick and Morty season 3! You guys are going to love it," his post dated Nov. 12 reads.

As reports point out, the animation process for "Rick and Morty" is made more challenging because the program uses a method that's not really common among most animated shows. Even though each episode is thoroughly written, a process called "retroscripting," in which the animators work around an ad-libbed dialogue. This is one of the reasons why fans notice voice actor Justin Roiland mumble and stutter when he does the voice of Rick. Although it adds some comedic effect to the show, it makes work even more difficult for animators.

"Rick and Morty" season 3 was previously rumored to air in December 2016, while other media outlets speculated its release to be in March 2017. Fans are advised to take such reports with a grain of salt because to date, there is no premiere confirmation yet from Adult Swim.
