The animated science fiction sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon has been renewed for a third season. More drama is expected to come, as the third installment will be focusing on the relationship between the two titular characters.

It only took three episodes in the second season for Adult Swim to decide and announce that the show will be having another season. "Rick and Morty" has impressive viewership, even the creators are overwhelmed by the show's immediate success.

"It's an honor to see Rick and Morty join the exclusive club of shows over nineteen episodes," Harmon said, as quoted by Den of Geek. Roiland stated, "I am blown away by the seemingly instant success of Rick and Morty. I look forward to continuing their adventures!"

Harmon also teased that they have been urging the network to allow them to "draw the characters going to Hawaii." If the network agrees, fans of the show will be seeing their favorite duo in a different setting.

In addition, one of the highlights of the upcoming season is Rick and Morty's relationship. Reports say that Jerry and Beth, Morty's parents, will be having marital problems. The arguments will deeply affect their son, especially when he finds out that one of the causes of their arguments is Rick's alcohol addiction. Rumor has it that Morty will wage a war against the eccentric mad scientist once he learns the truth about this.

When asked about last season's cliffhanger, Harmon said, "I don't think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season. So I think that's a non-spoiler way of saying things should be okay pretty quickly."

Even though it was revealed in the second season that "Rick and Morty" season 3 will premiere in March 2017, the show creators announced that they will be launching the season within 2016. In particular, Harmon said that they are targeting a premiere at the end of the year.

Watch out for more updates on the third season of "Rick and Morty."
