'Resident Evil 7' release date update: To make an appearance at E3 2016?

The fans of the popular "Resident Evil" game franchise have been speculating that a new title is already underway. In fact, the latest rumors suggest that "Resident Evil 7" will be making an appearance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 in June.

Capcom, the highly successful Japanese game developer company, is behind some of today's biggest game series such as "Street Fighter," "Monster Hunter," and "Resident Evil." For the latter title, it appears that Capcom is ready to do some measures to sustain the public's interest in the franchise.

If the rumors are correct, the fans can have their first glimpse of the new "Resident Evil" game at E3 2016. There are some industry insiders that support the idea of "Resident Evil 7's" E3 appearance next month, like the Katan Games CEO Dr. Serkan Toto.

As reported by the Only Single Player website, Toto revealed the information via his Twitter account that Capcom is already working on "Resident Evil 7," although there is still no title chosen for the next sequel. Moreover, the untitled "Resident Evil" video game will bring the horror theme back to the franchise, plus the game is going to be a "clean slate."

Toto also stated that the "Resident Evil 7" team has already chosen a new game designer. It is expected that Jordan Amaro, who was known to be a part of Kojima Productions' game projects like "Metal Gear Solid 4" and "PT," will be busy working on "Resident Evil 7" in the coming months.

"Resident Evil" was first known by the gamers as a horror video game series, starting off with a trilogy of "Resident Evil" titles that focus on a post-apocalyptic world filled with killer zombies. After the iconic "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis," the franchise slowly turned away from its horror roots until 2012, when the sixth installment of the "Resident Evil" series has gotten rid of the traditional horror theme.

While "Resident Evil 6" is still an enjoyable treat for the players, the long-time fans of the franchise could not help but express their disappointment as they have noticed that the horror genre that made "Resident Evil" an iconic game series is already disregarded by Capcom. Yibada noted that the sales of the previous "Resident Evil" titles saw a dip over the past few years, possibly due to the change in theme.
