'Resident Evil 7' release date news: Capcom confirms January 2017 release of 'Biohazard'

After Sony's presentation at the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 this week, the fans of the highly popular "Resident Evil" franchise have finally confirmed that the upcoming game title, "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard," will explore the same horror genre that first made the franchise successful as it is now. The new trailer released during the E3 event also reveals that the story and setting of the next "Resident Evil" video game are different from the previous titles, which raises the question of whether the upcoming installment is a complete reboot or a continuation of the previous game chapters.
The presentation at E3 also unveiled the release date of "Resident Evil 7," which is expected to be on Jan. 24, 2017. As reported by The Bitbag, the new trailer reveals many details that the fans have always wanted to know since the rumor broke out regarding Capcom's next "Resident Evil" project. It turns out that the speculations about the next "Resident Evil" title bringing back the horror theme to the franchise are true after all as the trailer shows hints of the same undead and gore contents that the first three "Resident Evil" video games have.
Resident Evil" was first known by the gamers as a horror video game series, starting off with a trilogy of "Resident Evil" titles that focus on a post-apocalyptic world filled with killer zombies. After the iconic "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis," the franchise slowly turned away from its horror roots until 2012, when the sixth installment of the "Resident Evil" series has gotten rid of the traditional horror theme.
"Resident Evil 7" is also coming out in the period where video games based on virtual reality are being released. As expected, "Resident Evil 7" will be fully compatible with VR headset features, specifically the PlayStation VR (PS VR), PlayStation Lifestyle reported. As "Resident Evil" revisits its horror origins, the upcoming title is also expected to switch to a first-person shooter setting.
