'Resident Evil 7' release date news 2016: Game will introduce new protagonist; mysterious healing herbs revealed

The upcoming seventh installment of the survival horror video game, "Resident Evil," has been in the rumor mill for a long time before the game developer Capcom decided to make it official. There have been contradicting rumors with regard to the title's release date and gameplay details; however, these have helped hype up the game. According to the latest report, fans will see a new main protagonist on "Resident Evil 7." The new game will also feature new healing herbs that players can use during the game.
According to reports, fans who have signed for the Resident Evil newsletter have received images from Capcom including the one with the healing herbs.
"Take a first look at the healing items in the game! Oh wait... what's this coin doing here?" notes the message on the picture. You can see the picture here, courtesy of NeoGAF.
The image features a couple of green herds, two bottles of what appear to be green ointment made from herbs and coin looking object. There's definitely some mystery in the photo, which left fans guessing what it exactly means.
According to a report by Gamerant, Capcom could be using a different approach in promoting the new "Resident Evil" title. The mysterious photo certainly captures the attention and interest of casual fans of the series.
As of the moment, the game developer has yet to provide more details about the mysterious photo.
Meanwhile, "Resident Evil 7" will introduce a new main protagonist. According to game director Koshi Nakanishi and game producer Masachika Kawata, the new lead character does not possess any skill. He is "powerless" compared to the others who already have different skills they developed through experience.
In other news, Capcom is said to be developing a VR version of the game. This will definitely give fans the opportunity to experience the game on a different platform.
"Resident Evil 7" will be available on Jan. 14 next year for Xbox One, PS4, PS VR and PC.
