A recent report indicates that running back Adrian Peterson's reinstatement to the Minnesota Vikings team has reportedly been denied.

Peterson was temporarily suspended from the NFL team after facing charges of child abuse in Texas, stemming from an incident earlier this year when he beat his four-year-old son with a switch. This week, Peterson pled no contest to reckless assault. His settlement will allow him to avoid jail time and any legal reference that the assault involved a minor.

According to a report by Fox Sports, Peterson's request to be immediately reinstated to the Vikings team so he may play in their upcoming game against the Chicago Bears was shut down by the NFL and team owners, who reportedly said they need more time to think about the decision before reinstating Peterson.

The Vikings released a short comment following Peterson's settlement, saying only that they will provide "further comment at the appropriate time."

Although Peterson and his team were seeking a quicker and more definitive answer on his return to the NFL, the Vikings are reportedly taking their time in deciding what to do with Peterson.

The running back released a statement Wednesday following his settlement, saying "I truly regret this incident."

"I stand here and I take full responsibility for my actions. I love my son more than anyone of you could manage, and I look forward to continuing my relationship with my child."

"I'm just glad this over and I can put this behind me, and me and my family can move forward," the running back added.
