'Red Oaks' season 2 news, spoilers: Premiere date revealed, story to focus more on character relationships

Amazon Studios

Amazon's hit comedy series "Red Oaks" is set to return for its second season on November 11, along with new episodes to delve deeper into character relationships and resolve season 1 cliffhangers.

The rookie web program made waves during its first season when an episode featured two characters swapping bodies after a bout of drinking. Reminiscent of story premises popularized during the '80s, the said episode helped in increasing viewers for the series which eventually led to a season renewal.

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour, the cast and creators were present to share interesting details on what lies ahead for the second season. "Season 1 felt like the perfect '80s summer movie and Season 2 feels like where it evolves from there — what happens next in the real world," actress Alexandra Socha teased.

Starting off as a "workplace comedy" where the group of friends met in a tennis club, co-creator Joe Gangemi confirmed that the characters' worlds will continue to expand as the story progresses.  They will explore various locations including the romantic city of Paris, the busy streets of New York City as well as Atlantic City. "I think we knew we could go deeper because we thought everyone knew them now," Jacobs explained. "It's a coming-of-age story for everyone."

The second season will highlight each individual character as well as their unique dynamic when banded together. According to actor Paul Reiser, doing the 10-episode web series feels like a vacation compared to the usual 22-episode runs of network TV programs. Jennifer Grey, who portrays Judy Meyers, mentioned her character's tumultuous marriage will finally come to an end in season 2." We are no longer hanging (and characters) go splat in our own spots," she said (via Deadline). "Judy Meyers is figuring out who she is after 22 years of being in a time machine."

"Red Oaks" season 2 premieres on Friday, November 11 on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon has yet to release the season 2 trailer, but it is expected to be out sometime in the Fall.
