Hit Showtime drama "Ray Donovan" wrapped up its fourth season with a fairly peaceful finale featuring the Donovan family intact. Although season 5 is still a year away, showrunner David Hollander recently revealed the creators' future plans for the series.

Heading to the fourth season finale, things did not seem to go well for Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber). Sonia (Embeth Davidtz) put him in a tough situation after informing the Rusian mob, leaving Ray with two options: either join Sonia in her quest to take down the mob or face jail time for all he has done in the past. Thanks to Ray's father Mickey (Jon Voight), he managed to solve his problem with the help of his other family members. Ray even became the hero when he tipped the FBI about the mob's drug stash and to top it all off, Abby (Paula Malcomson) had a miraculous recovery from cancer.

Speaking wityh The Hollywood Reporter, Hollander revealed that he is already planning on an endgame for the series. However, Hollander admits that he is still working on the style of the show and the "greater narrative" of Ray's true self. "We have to reach a point with Ray where we say goodbye to him, and the goodbye shouldn't be death. Goodbye needs to mark a time in his life where we felt like we've seen what we needed to see," he explained.

Additionally, the showrunner stressed they will never end the series with Ray's death since it would be an "easy way out of the storytelling." Going forward, Ray's philosophy will change because he will try to be more honest with his family, iInstead of crafting a new persona to hide himself, similar to what he did last year. "Moving forward, Ray will be Ray, the person he's always been, honestly, in front of the people he loves, for good and for bad," Hollander told Yahoo TV. "We'll see what happens with that."

The fifth season of "Ray Donovan" is expected to premiere sometime next year on Showtime.
