'Rampage' movie release date, spoilers, news: Dwayne Johnson-starring film comes on April 20, 2018

A big dose of retro visualizations and a nostalgic ride are set to hover over rather relentlessly in the coming years. With the recent announcements on Nintendo NES Classic Edition, along with blockbuster remakes of classic films such as "Beauty and the Beast" and "Cinderella," one might wonder whether the "classics" are the "new modern."
The newest entry in the crowd is Bally Midway's arcade video game, "Rampage." Released back in 1986, the game was as simple as it was fun, in which players are asked to take control of gigantic monsters trying to survive against onslaughts of military forces. Furthermore, each round is completed when a certain city is pulverized into rubble.
Now, the video game is being adapted into a film. It was announced on Nov. 18, 2011 that the video game iteration would have a film adaptation, which was handled back then by New Line Cinema with John Rickard attached to direct.
However, it was revealed on June 22, 2015 that wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and producer Beau Flynn were now attached to the project. Subsequently, Johnson's "San Andreas" director Brad Peyton was reported to replace Rickard accordingly. On July 20, 2016, it was revealed that the film production will commence on March 2017.
With its property rights currently owned by Warner Bros., the "Rampage" series tells about people who are described to have been turned into giant monsters after consumption of a new drinking product. These monsters then proceeded to trash everything in their sight. Furthermore, the roster has included a giant ape and a giant lizard, both clear references to cinema's most famous beasts.
"Rampage" has sequels such as the remake "Rampage World Tour" and console-exclusive games like "Rampage 2: Universal Tour" and "Rampage Puzzle Attack."
The film adaptation of "Rampage" is now given a theater release date of April 20, 2018.
