'Quantico' season 2 news: Showrunner teases 'grievous bodily harm' for main character

A main character in "Quantico" is in danger of sustaining potentially fatal injuries in season 2.
"Quantico" showrunner Josh Safran was recently asked about the ongoing terrorist plot on the drama thriller in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. In response, Safran revealed that perhaps not all of the major characters involved will make it out alive.
"Grievous bodily harm comes to one of our major characters in the first third of the season," he said. "I'm shocked at what we've pulled off. I mean, I really thought for sure we had gone too far, but I guess we didn't," he added.
Safran's comment pointed at the escalating action in the terrorism thriller, which began in the latest episode titled "Stescalade." In the "Die Hard"-inspired episode, Alex (Priyanka Chopra) killed a terrorist and tossed the corpse through a skylight into a room full of hostages. The terrorist's dead body had a note tied around its neck. "2 Down," it read, letting Raina (Yasmine Al Massri) know that Alex is alive.
According to Safran, the episode was a turning point for Alex, who now has to be more aggressive and ruthless despite her innate goodness.
"[S]he's human, she's Alex, and she doesn't want to kill anybody," Safran said in another EW interview, "but she also knows that she needs these terrorists to know that she's there..."
"It's a whole new day for Alex," he added.
Elsewhere in the episode, Shelby (Johanna Braddy) inadvertently blindsided Miranda (Aunjanue Ellis), who had attempted to destroy the former's report on all the recruits who could be in the AIC. In the building with the G20 Summit hostages, Ryan (Jake McLaughlin) tried to create a diversion by starting a fight with Harry (Russell Tovey) but ended up exposing Alex instead. The episode also raised the question of who Harry is working for and what his ultimate plan is.
Safran spoke about Ryan and Harry's issues, saying that they clearly do not like each other because of a past incident that has yet to play out on the series, but that is likely going to be revealed in the near future.
"You're going to learn a big piece of information about Harry very soon, which I think will connect some dots," the "Quantico" boss said.
"Quantico" season 2 airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
