'Prison Break' season 5 spoilers news: Series creator shares how historical epic 'Odyssey' inspired Michael Scoffield's comeback
Fox's iconic crime drama "Prison Break" is all set to make its much-anticipated return next year, with most of the original cast members reprising their roles for the fifth season.
After seven years of hiatus, the tattooed genius Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) makes his way back to the small screen with a whole new riveting storyline which fans are looking forward to. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Miller recalled how the idea of a reboot came into his mind and shared it with his co-star and close friend, Dominic Purcell.

"We started chatting and reminiscing," said Miller. "Out of that back-and-forth came this idea: 'What if we revisited Michael and Lincoln from Prison Break? Would Fox even be interested?' It turns out they were." During that time, the network was already working on reboots for other popular shows such as "The X-files" and "24" which makes their timing perfect.
Series Paul Scheuring quickly got on board with the idea, drawing inspiration from one of history's most famous epics, "Odyssey." He noticed how much similarities the two tales have which motivated him to conceptualize the new plot. "It's ultimately a story about somebody coming back to life," Scheuring explained. "The emotional heart of it is that he left behind a wife and a son he's never seen before. [I thought] 'Hey, wait, isn't that The Odyssey?'"
Purcell previously confirmed that the season 5 storyline will have ties to real-life issues currently faced by the society. Terrorism will have a huge part in the plot and along with themes involving the ISIS and ISA. Set in Yemen, the show unfolds with Michael alive and how he ended up working for a terrorist group. "It got to the point where he couldn't do it anymore, and they threw him in a jail in Yemen to change his mind," Purcell teased. "He didn't change his mind, they set him up..."
The revival season of "Prison Break" airs Spring 2017.
