'Prison Break' season 5 spoilers news: Dominic Purcell promises 'riveting, high-tension thriller' for fans, William Fichtner not joining reboot?

The revival season of "Prison Break" is one of the most-anticipated TV series to premiere next year, and fans are even more hyped to see the show's return due to a slew of its original characters confirmed to reprise their roles. Unfortunately, one popular character might not be present in the upcoming reboot — Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner).
According to Express, a source "confirmed" that Fichtner will not have a part in season 5 because of other engagements he is working on. However, representative from the show or for the actor has yet to confirm this.
For the uninitiated, Alexander Mahone is a top FBI agent who was tasked to capture the Fox River Eight. He started out as a villain in the series, but as the show progressed, he became one of Michael Scofield's best friends and a fan-favorite in the story. Fichtner was initially tapped to join the series until season 3, but writer/producer Matt Olmstead wanted him to be in the show's fourth and supposedly last season.
In an interview with Deadline, actor Dominic Purcell who portrays the role of Lincoln shared details on the plot for next season. He mentioned that it will incorporate real-life issues like the recent terrorist events in certain parts of the world. "It's tying into what's going on in the world today with terrorism," he said. "The show is taking place in Yemen; we're dealing with ISIS and ISA, and obviously we left off with Michael presumably dead. He wasn't, he ended up working for this organization. It got to the point where he couldn't do it anymore, and they threw him in a jail in Yemen to change his mind."
To sum up what fans should expect when the series premieres next year, Purcell hints that viewers will be impressed. "Honestly, the fans are going to be blown away by this. It's really a riveting, high-tension thriller. It's an extraordinary, extraordinary show. I've seen the dailies of it, and it looks like a cross between Bourne Identity and American Sniper. It's crazy. It's really, really cool," the actor added.
"Prison Break" season 5 airs sometime in midseason 2017 on Fox.
