'Pretty Little Liars' season 7 news, updates: Series confirmed to end after season 7; 2-hour special season 7 premiere set for 2017

The mid-season finale of "Pretty Little Liars" may have been filled with many surprises, but the biggest revelation from the cast and crew was the announcement that the series will end after season 7.

Lead stars Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, and Sasha Pieterse, along with series creator Marlene King confirmed that season 7 will mark the show's conclusion yesterday (Aug. 30) via Facebook Live.

To recap, the intense summer finale saw Spencer (Bellisario) fatally shot by Jenna (Tammin Sursok), and Mary (Andrea Parker) finally confessed to Spencer that she is her secret baby. Toby (Keegan Allen) and Yvonne (Kara Royster) may also be dead since they were both last seen unconscious in a wrecked car. Additionally, Ali (Pieterse) told Emily (Mitchell) that she is pregnant with Elliot/Archer's (Huw Collins) baby. The two PLLs later made out which could mean more complications for Emily's other relationships. Hanna (Benson) went rogue after she kidnapped Noel while Ezra (Ian Harding) and Aria's (Hale) relationship may possibly end after she found out that he reunited with Nicole (Rebecca Breeds) during his trip to Colombia.

After the final season announcement, King released a press statement expressing her gratitude for the cast and crew. She also hinted more revelations when the program airs its final half in 2017.

"It's been an honor to work with such a talented cast and crew over the last seven years," she told E! News. "We are a family, and it will be hard to say goodbye to a show that has made such an impact on young audiences and been a mouthpiece for cultural change. I'm excited for fans to finally have all of their questions answered, and I believe they will be satisfied with the wild ride that is our last ten episodes."

"Pretty Little Liars" season 7B returns next year with a supersized two-hour special on Freeform, but the network has yet to announce a definitive premiere date.
