'Pretty Little Liars' season 7 news: Release date set for June, Shay Mitchell talks about Emily's relationship status for next season

Freeform recently announced the official premiere dates for its roster of shows, including the flagship drama "Pretty Little Liars." The long-running series returns this June, as the girls continue their quest to take down "Uber A" for good. According to Variety, the group will band together as they try to "unearth answers to the last remaining secrets." The network even called the 7<sup>th season as its "most romantic" to date.

One character who fans are curious about is Emily (Shay Mitchell). Fans are used to seeing Emily have a love interest in almost every season, but after the season 6 time jump, the character seemed to be the only one in the group to remain single. In a press event for the upcoming film "Mother's Day," Mitchell caught up with Bustle where she talked about Emily's romantic status for season 7. The actress expressed that if she'd have it her way, it would be nice if Emily gets in a relationship again. "I hope that she finds somebody that she cares deeply about," Mitchell said. "It'd be nice to get to have someone in Emily's life that is special to her this season."

Mitchell also acknowledged that despite Emily's involvement in various relationships, being single in season 6 might just be the break she needed. However, the actress is hopeful that season 7 will definitely be a good time for Emily to try her luck in a relationship once more. "I know that last season, a lot of the fans were saying that Emily didn't have much of a love life. My answer to them was just that she'd had a revolving door of girls ever since the series began, so maybe she needed a little bit of a break," she explained.

Regardless of what direction the writers plan to take the show, Mitchell remains confident that the forthcoming season is nothing short of interesting. "I'm sure the writers aren't gonna leave us disappointed, that's for sure," Mitchell said.

"Pretty Little Liars" season 7 airs Tuesday, June 21 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
