'Power Rangers' reboot movie news: 'SNL' star Bill Hader to portray beloved character; new Zords posters revealed

Actor Bill Hader has been recently confirmed as the latest addition to the "Power Rangers" reboot cast.
The "Saturday Night Live" alum joins the much-anticipated film to voice Alpha 5, the Rangers' robot sidekick. In the campy original series, Alpha 5 is a panic-prone robot who had an almost sibling-like relationship with the Rangers. It is also known for shouting its famouse "aye-yi-yi" catchphrase, both when the robot is sad or happy. The official "Power Rangers" Twitter account revealed the news last Thursday using the catchphrase to welcome Hader to the cast.
Although the Rangers will all be portrayed by newcomers (RJ Cyler, Becky G., Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery), Hader joins the roster of supporting cast membes made up of some pretty big names. Earlier this year, the film began grabbing fans' attention when Elizabeth Banks was tapped to play villain Rita Repulsa. Also joining the feature film is veteran actor and "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston as Zordon, the floating head that advises the Rangers on everything they do.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are currently gearing up for their debut in the New York Comic-Con (NYCC) next month, and they will be bringing some new artwork for fans. Ahead of Lionsgate's NYCC panel scheduled on Oct. 8, the studio unveiled five character posters featuring the mighty morphin team's new Zords. The whole cast will be present at the panel, which gives fans more details on the movie followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and cast. Additionally, fans will also see some footages from the film.
Set to hit the big screen early next year, "Power Rangers" is a reboot of the '90s TV show of the same name. The story follows Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Zack—a group of high schoolers who become the Power Rangers to fight against alien forces causing trouble in their town.
"Power Rangers" will have its U.S. premiere on March 24, 2017.
