Pope Francis to make movie debut in film about four gospels
The head of the Catholic Church will appear in a film for the first time in history.
Pope Francis will appear in an upcoming Italian family film entitled "Beyond the Sun", about the four gospels of the Bible. The movie is reportedly being made as a response to the Pope's call for films that communicate Jesus' message, especially toward children.
According to a report by The Guardian, procedes from the movie's screening will be donated to two charities in Argentina that provide help for 'at-risk' children, as well as young adults.
"Our excitement and gratitude toward His Holiness, Pope Francis, participating in this film is beyond words," co-founder of AMBI Pictures, said Andrea Lervolino said.
"This is not just a movie for us, it's a message, and who better to have on your side to deliver an important societal and spiritual message than the Pope?"
However, there have been conflicting reports about Pope Francis' reported appearance in "Beyond the Sun". Some reports are claiming that he would play a major role in the story of the film.
Meanwhile, the AMBI website only says that the pope would just give an epilogue that tells "children how and where to find Jesus".
On Monday, a Vatican spokesman stated that the pope will have no part in acting. "The pope is not an actor," he said.
Pope Francis has been considered by some cinema enthusiasts as a credible critic in the industry. Some of his favorite films include Rome, Open City, Babette's Feast, and La Strada.
As a result, film makers and celebrities are occasionally seeking advice and approval from the Pope regarding Catholic or Christian-related films.
