Pope Francis' wish to order a pizza without being recognized was granted by the heavens when a pizza-maker handed him a pie while he was touring through Naples on Sunday.

The Catholic Church's highest leader was reported earlier by CNN to have expressed a wish that he could go out one day to a pizza parlor "without being recognized."

But when you are the head of the Catholic world, "pizza comes to you," wrote CNN.

Pizzeria owner Enzo Cacialli handed Pope Francis his very own pizza creation as the Pontiff's motorcade drove through Naples.

Cacialli hopped a barrier with his pizza creation in hand as the Pope's mobile came near.

He ran toward the open-top popemobile, yelling "Papa! Papa!" Pope Francis was shown in a video reaching down to Cacialli and receiving his pie.

After his brief encounter with one of the world's most powerful leaders, the pizza parlor owner pumped his fist in the air as the crowd cheered on.

"I gave him the pizza and with a smile he said 'thank you,'" Cacialli said.

The pizza was personally made by Cacialli. It has a Naples-style thin crust with "Il Papa" spelled out in dough. In reference to the flag of the Vatican, the pizza was garnished with yellow cherry tomatoes.

Cacialli grew up in a pizza-making family. He said he wants to follow in the footsteps of his father who, he claimed, made pizza for President Bill Clinton when the latter went to Naples in 1994.

"It's really hard for me to understand what I managed to do," he said. "Giving a pizza you made with your own hands to the Pope is very emotional. It's really hard for me to express the value of this gesture for a man we really love and value, for a beautiful person full of humanity."

The pizza-maker has yet to hear whether the Pope enjoyed his pie.
