'Poldark' season 2 spoilers: New teaser reveals dark times ahead for Ross, controversial rape scene from Winston Graham's novels axed by producers

Dark times lie ahead for Ross (Adrian Turner) when "Poldark" season 2 returns this Fall.
A new trailer has been released for BBC One's hit historical drama featuring the titular hero as he prepares to face yet another huge challenge in his life. "I fought for our liberty. For our hopes, for our dreams," Turner's Ross firmly says in the 30-second clip. "And I'll keep on fighting, whatever the cost."
The teaser shows a band of soldiers leading Ross in chains, which is probably what happened after he was arrested in the season 1 finale. Aside from facing the consequences of a shipwreck which occurred on his land, he must also deal with the death of his daughter Julia due to a terrible disease.
For the uninitiated, the show is based on Winston Graham's series of historical novels first published in 1945. A controversial rape scene involving Ross and his ex-lover Elizabeth was featured in both the book and 1970s TV adaptation but according to lead star Turner, a less shocking script was written to tweak the plot.
"It seems consensual and it just seems right. He goes to talk. He doesn't go to commit a crime," he said in an interview with The Sun. "They talk and it seems like there is still this spark between them, this unfinished business emotionally. Certainly, that's how Ross feels. He doesn't force himself upon her."
Prior to its season 2 release, the period drama was already renewed for a third season. Set in 1794, the next season will follow graham's fifth and sixth novels. "Ross must traverse a new family, new loves and new battles as the French Revolution casts a shadow over life in Cornwall," the season 3 synopsis reads.
Tune in to "Poldark" season 2 which premieres on Sunday, Sept. 4 on BBC One.
