According to Independent, lead star Aidan Turner will reprise his role as Ross Poldark and the season 2 premiere is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 4.The plot will pick up exactly where the series left off last year with Ross and Demelza still reeling from the heartache of losing their child. Ross' company is not in good shape and they are clearly broke. He has been arrested and possibly heading to prison, which could mean that season 2 will be filled with a lot of struggles for the characters. During the MCM Comic-Con back in May, Turner hinted that the series will also shed light on the main characters' "massive arcs" next season.

Executive producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff promises that the upcoming storyline will bring out different emotions from viewers. "Series two promises to take the audience on another fantastic rollercoaster ride and we're thrilled to know that the story won't end there. It's a testament to Debbie's brilliant storytelling and the passion of the Mammoth team that Poldark will be returning for a third series, with yet more twists and turns for these much-loved characters," her press statement reads.

BBC has also confirmed that the series will have a third season with at least 10 episodes. The network has yet to confirm a definitive release date, but it will begin airing sometime in 2017. Filming will be moved to more picturesque areas in south-west England and the story will cover Winston Graham's fifth and sixth books set in the year 1794. "Ross must traverse a new family, new loves and new battles as the French Revolution casts a shadow over life in Cornwall," the synopsis for season 3 reads.
